"Life is like a game of chess; once a piece is placed, there's no regret." This phrase perfectly describes the career of Wang Dong, General Manager of Starmicro Electronics (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. From the ups and downs of his early career to founding a chip distribution agency, Wang Dong, an avid chess player, approaches each step like a thoughtful chess master—possessing both the ability to control his own "game" and the boldness to break through adversity.

In 2005, a young Wang Dong arrived in Shenzhen fueled by a drive to "achieve his life's ideals." However, just one month into his new job, he faced layoffs. The subsequent two years of drifting and various hardships gave him a profound understanding of society's harsh realities. Recalling this period, Wang Dong smiled with relief: "Back then, graduating from a 985/211 university made me feel quite capable. It was unexpected to be laid off and feel so lost. Out of necessity, I ended up working as a technician on a construction site. Although I was very frustrated inside, fortunately, the overall direction wasn't wrong."

Discussing why he entered the chip industry, Wang Dong said: "Although I drifted for two years after graduation, I never lost the desire to pursue success." Therefore, after continuous reflection and attempts, in 2007, Wang Dong proactively chose to enter the chip industry. He was fortunate to join two leading semiconductor companies successively, rising from a sales position to a product marketing engineer. Over these eight years, by dealing with foreign clients, he gained an in-depth understanding of the operational models of upstream manufacturers. He accumulated rich resources for upstream products and channels, solidifying a strong foundation and deep industry knowledge. These experiences laid the groundwork for his later entrepreneurship.

In 2014, Wang Dong coincidentally joined the ranks of entrepreneurs. In 2017, he formally established Starmicro Electronics (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. In the initial years, the company operated primarily as a trader. However, as market competition intensified, Wang Dong realized that relying solely on a trader model was unsustainable for long-term development. Thus, he began transitioning the company from a trader to an authorized distributor model.

Starmicro Electronics is a hybrid chip distributor operated by a team with senior experience from top international agencies. Founder Wang Dong has nearly two decades of deep involvement in the chip industry. Consequently, the company has two significant advantages: one is possessing stable manufacturer resources, and the second is the ability to recommend good product alternatives during shortages, helping customers reduce costs, solve problems, and ensure supply chain stability and security.

Despite these advantages, the transition was a painful process for Wang Dong. As the boss, he needed to invest substantial capital and time to build his team while facing market uncertainties. Relying on his experience, he led the team to deeply research customer needs and actively expand product lines. Ultimately, they established cooperative relationships with several well-known domestic and international manufacturers, successfully securing distribution rights for brands like Deoutech, Changjing, and Analog Devices. They also accumulated a large number of high-quality customers in the industrial control field. "The transition process was indeed difficult, but I knew it was an inevitable path for the company's development. We must adapt to market changes and continuously enhance our competitiveness," Wang Dong stated. He added that next, they aim to secure distribution rights for Mr. Song Shiqiang's companies, SLKOR and Kinghelm, to enrich their product lines and provide customers with more comprehensive services.

Over the past eight years of entrepreneurship, Wang Dong's management strategy has been deeply influenced by traditional Chinese culture. He firmly believes that "life is like a game of chess," where the strategy, layout, and foresight in chess are precisely the indispensable wisdom for modern enterprises in competition. Simultaneously, he loves traditional culture and Chinese aesthetics, especially folding fans and long gowns. Not only has he hosted the Sichuan-Chongqing Electronics Professionals Association's "Tongxin Hui" Spring Festival Gala dressed in a Republican-era style gown, but he also often carries a folding fan at various events, conveying respect for and the continuation of traditional culture.

Wang Dong possesses the characteristic optimism and humor of people from Sichuan and Chongqing. Despite encountering difficulties throughout his career, he has faced them with an optimistic attitude and a positive mindset. He says he greatly admires the character Gundam from Japanese anime; when facing challenges, he often raises his hands and shouts Gundam's line to himself: "These hands of mine burn red! They tell me to grasp victory!" to encourage himself. Saying this always makes him feel pumped up, giving him the courage to face difficulties.

He also actively leverages the power of social media, posting short videos on his personal accounts—"Also Common Also Refined Dong Shao" (Video Channel) and "Starmicro's Brother Dong" (Douyin/TikTok)—covering hot chip topics, cutting-edge industry knowledge, and career planning for newcomers, attracting significant support from online fans.
