4. OpenAI announced the holding of its inaugural Developer Conference

On September 7th, Daily Economic News reported that OpenAI, an American artificial intelligence company, announced on its official website that it will hold its inaugural developer conference, "OpenAI DevDay," in San Francisco on November 6th, 2023. The event will invite hundreds of developers from around the world to preview new tools and exchange ideas with the OpenAI team. OpenAI stated that since the launch of its API, they have been continuously updating it to include their state-of-the-art models, making it easier for developers to integrate cutting-edge AI into their projects through simple API calls. Currently, over 2 million developers are using GPT-4, GPT-3.5, DALL·E, and Whisper for a wide range of use cases, from integrating intelligent assistants into existing applications to building entirely new applications and services that were previously impossible.

In November of last year, OpenAI unveiled the chatbot ChatGPT, which attracted numerous users with its powerful natural language understanding and generation capabilities, sparking a new wave of research and commercialization in the field of artificial intelligence. According to a previous report by The Paper, OpenAI is expected to generate over $1 billion in revenue in the next 12 months, indicating significant progress in the commercialization of the company.

On September 7th, a Weibo blogger named "@数码闲聊站" mentioned some new information about Xiaomi's self-developed operating system. The disclosure stated that the self-developed system is "almost ready," and it is planned to be initially used for AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) and "large terminals," but not for smartphones this year. 6. According to reports, Apple is intensifying its efforts in conversational AI

According to insider information on September 7th, Apple has been increasing its budget for building the computational infrastructure required for artificial intelligence. One of the company's goals is to develop features that allow iPhone users to automate tasks involving multiple steps using simple voice commands. Reports indicate that Apple has established a team called "Foundational Models," consisting of only 16 members. However, Apple invests millions of dollars in AI research every day, suggesting their focus on building infrastructure for generative AI.

Apple has developed an "Ajax" framework for its AI projects and has created its own internal chatbot, referred to by some engineers as "Apple GPT." This platform is built on Google's Jax machine learning framework and operates on Google Cloud. It was reported that Apple considered signing a contract with OpenAI and even tried their technology on a trial basis but eventually abandoned the plan. Currently, Microsoft and Google have both launched conversational AI, but there is no indication that Apple will release consumer-facing AI products in the near future.

7. China Mobile has responded to the news of "iPhone sales suspension."

On September 7th, China News Network reported that there have been viral rumors on multiple social media platforms claiming that China Mobile has stopped selling iPhones. These rumors also suggested that China Mobile would no longer offer contract sales for the upcoming iPhone 15 from Apple. They stated that they will continue to cooperate with Apple in selling iPhones, including the potential upcoming release of the iPhone 15.

8. Qualcomm may consider price cuts in Q4

On September 7th, Jiemian News reported that Tianfeng Securities analyst Guo Mingji shared his analysis report on Huawei's in-house Kirin chipset today, stating that Qualcomm will be impacted the most. The report indicates that Huawei will purchase 23-25 million smartphone SoCs from Qualcomm starting from 2022 and begin to exclusively use its own designed new Kirin chipset from 2024 onwards, which will lead to Qualcomm losing orders from Huawei and facing the risk of non-Huawei Chinese brand customers exiting the market due to Huawei's increased smartphone market share.

The report predicts that Qualcomm's shipment volume of SoCs to Chinese smartphone brands will decrease by 50-60 million from 2024 due to Huawei's adoption of the new Kirin chipset, and this reduction is expected to continue year by year. In order to maintain its market share in China, Qualcomm may start a price war as early as Q4 2023. The report also reveals two potential risks for Qualcomm: the expected proportion of the Exynos 2400 in Samsung's smartphones and Apple's plan to use its own data chips starting from 2025. According to the report, Apple will launch an iPhone with a self-developed 5G baseband in 2025, which is expected to be first equipped on the iPhone SE model.
